Purpose of the position
To manage a team of Skill Coaches in relation to ensuring that all targets as set by line management are achieved.
To ensure that Apprentices/Learners on allocated programmes are reviewed regularly, progress through Gateway (for Standards) and meet timely and overall achievement targets.
To liaise with the customer POCs to support a collaborative approach to the success of the programmes.
Core tasks and responsibilities
Line manage a team of Skills Coaches, other delivery staff and administration staff to ensure that all Apprentices/Learners successfully progress through their programmes, their work is assessed in a timely manner as set by management, achieving or exceeding the required quality standards, and that Skill Coaches and other delivery staff are providing Apprentices/Learners with constructive, professional, and relevant feedback in order for them to achieve their qualification/Apprenticeship Framework or Standard.

Ensure that Apprentices/Learners are progressing in line with their target achievement dates.
Oversee caseload management in regard to Apprentice/Learner progress, reviews, completions and breaks in learning, etc.
Manage and monitor the process for Gateway in conjunction with the delivery staff and the customer/s.
Assist with assessment activity, where required, as directed by management ensuring that own assessments are accurate and achieve verification agree rates set by management whilst providing constructive, professional, and relevant feedback to Apprentices/Learners in relation to their qualifications/Apprenticeship Standards.
Where required, internally verify assessment decisions for allocated Skill Coaches and other delivery staff in line with the internal verification sampling plan where required.
Support Skills Coaches and other delivery staff in relation to personal targets/goals, performance reviews, and personal development.
Support and contribute towards the use of more flexible and supported methods of learning to place learners at the centre of the learning process, including the use of e-learning, e-portfolios and e-platforms.
Assist with external visits in relation to own Programme Areas.
Complete visits to other sites and locations when required or as directed by management.
Assist in the assessment and verification of other qualifications when required.
Complete CPD as set by management in order to retain theoretical or occupational competence.
Attend and run team meetings as required.
Create coursework or other materials as required.
Work with and support the internal and any relevant external client Quality team to ensure continuous improvements within the Apprenticeship provision including, where required:
Participation in the programme of standardisation and OTLAs to monitor, develop and promote effective teaching and learning.
Apprentice/Learner and Employer resources and learning materials are kept up to date and relevant.
Participation in SV visits and internal/external inspections.
Contributing to the production of the customers’ Self-Assessment Reports & implementing the Quality Improvement Plans.
Collate management information, including preparing accurate monthly reports and returns.
Provide cover for other Programme Managers where required.
Identify business opportunities and assist with the implementation of these opportunities.
Effective stakeholder management of commercial customers, including attendance to customer meetings and prompt response to customer in line with service level agreements.
Effective management of staff under your control with responsibility for recruitment, retention and where necessary disciplinary activities.
Responsibility for the welfare of any staff under your control by following all relevant Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Equality, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Prevention of Harassment and Bullying and other HR policies.

Training / Competencies
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both orally and in writing, including sensitive/difficult information
Hold a management qualification at level 3 or above, or willing to work towards
Hold a teaching/assessor qualification
Hold an internal verifier qualification
Good use of IT skills and experience in managing and analysing a database
Hold a minimum of 3 years experience in a management position
Experience of stakeholder management
Ability to manage own workload, and manage tight deadlines and conflicting priorities to deliver, to challenging deadlines with minimal supervision
Awareness and understanding of e-portfolio assessment systems
Ability to analyse and interpret complex and conflicting information to make sound judgements and recommendation
Knowledge of apprenticeship frameworks and awareness of new Apprenticeship standards
Proven and effective people management ability
Excellent organisational, interpersonal/ communication skills and the ability to influence
Ability to promote learning and opportunity for all
Knowledge of quality assurance systems and processes.
Experience of Ofsted inspection requirements and a good understanding of Common Inspection Framework
Full, current driving licence
Car owner, with a willingness to use on Pearson TQ business as required (mileage allowance payable)
Experience of working in a Learning and Development managerial role, including the management of people and resources to deliver organisational objectives
Good working knowledge and understanding of the employment and skills agenda
Experience of implementation of new Apprenticeship programmes
